The lens is curved rather than flat, so you get a wide field of view with no dead zone at the edges. Twin symmetric inlets and a cold-flow exhale valve keep it clear, and a speech diaphragm lets you talk through it without taking it off.

Dust on the lens scratches it. Rinse with clean water first, then wipe with a soft cloth. Dry-wiping is what ruins an anti-fog coating.
Push each cartridge until it clicks, then tug gently. A half-seated cartridge is the usual cause of a leak you cannot see.
Look at the membrane each time you clean the facepiece. A split or stiffened diaphragm lets air past and fogs the lens.

A flat visor has edges you have to look around. The spherical lens curves continuously, so the view stays usable toward the sides — useful when you are working close to something or looking down.
