When you first taste or smell the contaminant through the facepiece, the cartridge is done. Stop, leave the area, and fit a new pair.
Carbon slowly adsorbs whatever is in the air. Keep unopened cartridges in their sealed bag, not on a workshop shelf.
Water and heat damage the carbon bed. Once a cartridge has been used, discard it once it breaks through.
There is no fixed time — it depends on the concentration and how heavy your breathing is. Replace on breakthrough, or follow the interval printed on the box for your job, whichever comes first.
Yes. Stack a VQ-FP120 pad over the cartridge to filter particles at the same time as vapors.
No. Isocyanates and two-pack systems need specialist equipment and a formal hazard assessment by a competent person. These cartridges are for consumer and light DIY exposure such as household paint and adhesive.
For odors and solvents, your nose is the indicator: as soon as you can smell the product, the cartridges have broken through. There is no such warning for every vapor, which is why they must never be used in an unknown atmosphere.
